Janki Devi Memorial College (University of Delhi) has a long and vibrant history of community outreach and extension activities. The College has set up the Centre for Extension and Outreach Activities in 14th June, 2021. The centre is in keeping with the vision of its founder, Shri. Brij Kishan Chandiwala, a Gandhian. The centre espouses the Gandhian values of simplicity, selfless commitment to society and will be working towards the upliftment of the deprived sections of society. The aim of the centre is to initiate students to contribute their time and efforts in working for the disadvantaged and underprivileged members of the society. The commitment of the students to the needs of the community will enrich their learning and prepare them to be responsible members of the society. The outreach activities will promote diversity and inclusion and will enhance the knowledge and skills of the learners.
The centre will be led by a team comprising of a Director, a Secretary, a Treasurer, and additional faculty members. It will have multiple components-

1. Learning beyond the curriculum
To create opportunities for students to engage with the community through the outreach activities and enhance their learning. These interactions will help them in their personal growth too.
2. Skill enhancement
To develop skills for interpersonal development, teamwork, communication, problem solving and leadership to name a few.
3. Real world experience
To provide learning opportunities two students in the field of outreach and extension through real world experiences. This will enable them to practice skills they have learnt.
4. Giving back to the community
o promote volunteering time and efforts through outreach activities like campaigns, drives, awareness initiatives for improved social responsibility e and developing citizenship skills.
1. To enhance the understanding of education in the context of community outreach and human development across the lifespan
2. To develop in the students a desire to work with their peers for the betterment of the community through outreach activities and projects.
3. To organise seminars/ workshops and add on courses for students to enhance their knowledge and develop their skills.
4. To encourage and motivate students to be involved in community outreach activities to gain hands on experience.
5. To conduct sensitization workshops for students to understand and appreciate diversity and inclusion in the context of disability.
6. Since, the centre comprises four (4) diverse units. Each unit of this centre envisages a minimum of five (5) initiatives per year.
1. To plan outreach activities that combine learning goals and community service.
2. To develop strategies that will integrate outreach with enriching the learning experiences of the students and develop social responsibility.
3. To develop in the students skills required for creating community awareness on relevant socialissues.
4. To provide students with experiential opportunities for learning in the real world context.
5. To plan interactive sessions with scholars, NGOs, medical experts, rehabilitation professionals, life coaches to chalk out/ explore career pathways in community outreach programs.
6. To enhance Faculty student engagement in community based research projects, to promote learning from experience and further develop their interest in community research.
7. As each unit of the centre will do five initiates per year. So, at the end of a four year period we envisage 20 initiatives per unit and a total of eighty (80) initiatives/ activities.
