Workplace Safety, Protection of Employees at Workplace and Legal Remedies

The Career Opportunity Cell, Janki Devi Memorial College in collaboration with Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) organized a national webinar on the topic 'Workplace Safety, Protection of Women Employees at Workplace and Legal Remedies.' The webinar was organized on 7th September, 2021 from 2 pm to 5 pm and attended by more than 170 participants. The Principal, Dr. Swati Pal addressed the gathering and stressed the need for a safe environment for women. The session began with the welcome and introduction of the Guest of Honor, Dr Urmila Devi ( Additional Secretary, UGC) and the resource persons-

  2. Ms Hina Desai, Senior Advocate
  3. Dr Vikas Kumar, Faculty of Law

Ms. Mriganka talked about the various aspects of sexual assault.Using various examples, she addressed how Bollywood often tends to normalize such stereotypes.She further talked about the #MeToo Tempest from the Indian perspective.Topics like Rights of an aggrieved woman & Rights of Respondent were very enlightening and informative.

Ms. Hina Desai covered various real life sexual assault cases. She further talked about the duties and powers of ICC members, Internal complaints mechanism and explained how the processes took place and how they were dealt with respect to the POSH Law and The Vishakha Guidelines.

Dr. Vikas Kumar shared his insights on the definition of extended workplace and formation of Internal Complaints Committee. He spoke about the case: Saurabh Kumar Mallick v. CAG of India. He then elaborated upon the components of a well drafted complaint and also the economic cost that an organisation faces if the cases are not addressed.

We learnt about aspects and the origin of laws related to sexual assault at workplace and the remedies available for the same. The session ended with a warm vote of thanks by the conveners Dr. Amita Charan Ma’am and Poonam Bewtra Ma’am.
